REGASIFICATION
Filed in 1 | Leave a Comment
After the referendum (non-binding) of the town of Priolo Gargallo, that with 97% of the no of voters rejected the establishment of a regasification terminal in the heart of the industrial area, intensifies the offensive of the proponents of the yes. In addition to the Ionian Gas (industrial society owner of the project), which in a few years after the start of the licensing procedure, pressed by events, has decided to activate an information campaign on the project (creating a website, brochures, television commercials , etc..), give support to the implementation of the LNG terminal unions, minimizing the security problems from the system and places emphasis on the positive effects for the economy and development of the province and the national energy demand.
And as opposed to citizens and committees that claim industrial choices can ensure safety and environmental compatibility, was born in Melilli a committee pro-LNG terminal. A legitimate choice, which leaves is questionable for the reasons that support it. It is argued that there will be no development without methane, or clean air, nor will the well-being and energy saving. They attach to the LNG terminal owned by elimination of industrial employment problems of the territory and the prediction captivating power to accomplish with his realization the free supply of natural gas.
The locations for the installation, including that of the Ionian Gas, escape to a fundamental obligation: the merits of the business plan and the relationship between this and the reality of industrial land. In fact, these are the objections raised by the citizens of Priolo. And 'no doubt that the LNG terminal is a facility classified by the law 334/1999 at the risk of a major accident. The institutions have glossed over the proper application of the rules and the lack of involvement of the territory. When the project was started in the Ionian Gas (early 2005) was in fact already in force, the Convention of Aarhus (Denmark) in June 2001, endorsed by Law no. 108 of 2001, which obliged all public and private stakeholders to involve the communities and environmental groups in the decision to carry out the construction of new hazardous installations. A principle that has become an integral part of Legislative Decree 238 of 2005 (which transposed the EU Directive 105 of 2003, the so-called Seveso Ter). Procedures therefore circumvented denial of the democratic debate.
Those who oppose brought up to date sufficient arguments to refute this claim. It remains open all the crucial issue on which not enough reassuring statements: the safety of a facility as an LNG terminal with storage tanks of 450,000 cubic meters, placed close to numerous other hazardous installations (ethylene, hydrocarbons, etc.).. It 'a problem that touches a sensitive nerve of the population, several times threatened by serious incidents dangerous industrial plants, but by far less than the potential destructive power of a regasification terminal.
There are, as demonstrated by the same predictions as LNG terminal project, problems of environmental impact to the waters of the sea and the atmosphere: the low temperatures which will be fed back into the sea water used for the transformation of LNG in the gaseous state, the 'the use of chlorine for antifouling treatment of the same, the elimination of vapors of methane that tend to form in cryogenic plants, through a torch exhaust, that enters a part even if a minimum of pollutants. Industrial development must be ensured and promoted if the new settlements are compatible with the safety, environment and land resources, otherwise, one must be able to change course and to promote other growth opportunities.

SICILY CAN IMPROVE

Sicily was already widely punched in the soul, and Gela, Milazzo, Augusta injuries are related to hydrocarbons and the old model of development. The new Sicily may be less than oil and gas wells because, if he wants, but he has already resource deposits that are bearing fruit. Here they are:
1) Organic Farming: Sicily has the leadership of organic produce with over 8,000 producers (15.7% of the Italian companies) on 51,000 national, followed by Calabria and Puglia with 6,300 producers with 5,600 companies. Organic is a fast-growing sector with a total turnover of 1.5 billion Euros national, of which only in Sicily there are 200 million euro. And the sector, according to economic analysts, it will grow again.
2) The tourism "popular regions by foreign tourists are Lazio, Tuscany, Veneto, Lombardy, Campania and Sicily. Mediterraneo is on top of the world ranking of tourist destinations. Currently tourism produces about 15% of GDP in the countries on the southern shore of the Mediterranean against 5-7% of those of the north bank.
3) The Agroenergia is the new strategic sector on which Sicily is pointing to. After the great results of the experimental project Fi.sic.a. (Chain Sicilian Agroenergia) Sicily is ready to switch to renewable energy production derived from the exploitation of livestock or plant materials (seeds, residues or waste water) and become the European leader in the production of biodiesel and bioethanol thanks to the sun. On the other hand, European policy decision point with the development of renewable energy
Sicily can not afford to waste even its territory to activities that are not his natural vocation! Mining activities affect the livability of an area. It 's time to focus on what is beautiful and that you can put to good use boost the economy.

A LOT OF BARREL AND NO FUTURE
Filed in 1 | Leave a Comment
You could see broken heads, batons to hit defenseless bodies, kicking, punching and detentions.
The citizens took their right to ask: work. Students to defend their education that is gradually falling apart. They shout their fear during the demonstrations. They want to know that they have no social weight. Do not give up, but the students perceive that their future is precarious.
The ruling class can not sensitized with the protesters (peaceful ones), and instead closes his greed always carrying at greater distances from the needs of those who voted for him.
We reiterate that the job is a right, it is also a right to express their discontent in the street, always if done peacefully.
But what we have seen is that the police intervenes hard, in all the squares of Italy, as if past experiences were not used to anything. There is no sign of respect for people who are so happy to protest. The anger, frustration and interference of man in uniform is discharged on the citizen. Politicians would like to thank and defend these brutal gestures. This is a bad sign because if thousands of people are attacked in order to draw attention to an important problem or workers demonstrate for their rights violated by unjust policies and useless for development, how will they explain their dissent?
Manifesting is an inalienable right, man can not in a country like Italy survive and bear on their shoulders the whole burden of the errors of wrong policies and corrupt politicians, but it must be the policy to give concrete answers in helping Italians And to go to get money into the pockets of the rich, in the Church to pay all taxes due, to go and optimize the cost of the policy and to improve the management of public administration.
